How To Be An Audrey In A Kardashian World

Classy role models for young women these days are hard to come by. Now, I'm not going to bash Kim Kardashian, so if that's what you're here for then you're going to be disappointed. Instead, I want to list some classy attributes and characteristics along with some good quotes that can still be put to good use today by the modern woman. My advice? Choose at least five to really focus on for a couple weeks. You'll be amazed at how much healthier (and classier) you feel about yourself and your life!

"Elegance is the only beauty that never fades." –Audrey Hepburn

Chew like you have a secret.

Have at least three hobbies that don't include a phone, computer or TV screen.

Know that class is not about what you are wearing, where you live, or the car you drive, but about where you're going in life, who you are as a person and how you treated yourself and others to get where you've gotten.

Remember, "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent." –Eleanor Roosevelt

Always know when short is too short when dealing with a haircut, dress or heels.

Have more than you show, and speak less than you know.

Your mood should not indicate your manners.

Keep your heels, head and standards high.

Maintain good posture. ("Keep your chin up or your crown slips")

A classy lady knows that respect cannot be demanded, but must be earned.

Leave the gossip to Gossip Girl.

Send handwritten thank you notes and letters.

Avoid putting your elbows on the dinner table.

Accept compliments with a polite "thank you," acknowledging your self-worth.

Understand that things such as your love life can be kept private.

Cross your legs when wearing a skirt or dress. Always.

"You cannot act like flip flops and expect to be treated like Louboutins."

Never dumb yourself down to make a man, or anyone, look better.

Dress how you want to be addressed.

Friends and good manners will carry you where money won't go.

Authenticity and transparency are valuable.

"Pearls are always appropriate" –Jackie Kennedy

If you're buying a $2,000 bag, make sure you have $2,000 to put in it.

Be a goal digger, not a gold digger.

There's a fine line between being honest and being rude. Never confuse the two.

Seek respect, not attention.

You should be able to make a man smile with your clothes on.

Refrain from using vulgar or crude language.

Give compliments when you sincerely mean it.

A lady is graceful and respectful. She listens more than she speaks.

Be punctual. Early is on time and on time is late.

Spend time with people who complement you as a person.

Makeup is a tool to magnify beauty.

Walk by faith. (Proverbs 31:26 "She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.")

"Classy women have objectives and never set themselves up to be objectified." –Tiana Brownen

Don't forget to choose five of your favorite quotes or attributes of a classy woman to try and live out for the next few weeks. Stay classy!

(I kept my promise of not bashing a Kardashian, mostly because she's already been the "butt" of too many jokes.)

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
