How Rescuing My Cats Changed My Life As Much As Theirs
Ally Kovach

In the winter of 2015, I walked home from my bus stop after school. I will always remember this day because it was the day I rescued my cat, Felipe. Now to continue on with the story, as I was walking down my street I remember how cold it was outside. Now, yes, Ohio is cold but it was colder than usual on that day. As I was about to reach my house I kept hearing this sort of crying and it kept getting louder and louder. My neighbors were outside shoveling and noticed the sound too, but didn't do anything about it.

Well, being the exploring person I am, I went to where the sound was coming from. I looked under this red car and there he was. I felt bad for the cat. No animal should be outside, especially in that weather. I didn’t really know what to do so I was gonna go inside to ask my mom, but as I was walking home the cat followed me to my door. This was a sign for me that I was supposed to take him in.

Out of all the cats I’ve had in my lifetime, all except one has been rescued. The one that wasn’t rescued was my other cat's kitten. I wish more people would take to getting pets off the streets or from the pound. Many people do not understand the animals at a pet store stay there until they get bought. While on the other side, if an animal is in a pound its life will get taken away too soon if it doesn’t get taken home. I just think of all the animals lives I’ve saved by rescuing my cats instead of buying them from a pet store. Don’t get me wrong those animals need homes too, but it would be a better option to take in animals that could get euthanized.

A sad but common theme I have found with my cats I have rescued is that many of them have gone through some abuse. Now I can’t certainly say it’s physical abuse but we can take a good guess that it is physical by how our cats act around my family sometimes. Now Felipe doesn’t show any signs of abuse but our one cat Daisy shows many signs. For starters, she will hide if there is anyone in our house that doesn’t live with us. Another thing she does is she just doesn’t like people being too close to her. If that is standing by her, walking toward her, or even picking her up. You can tell she doesn’t like it because her ears go down really fast after picking her up. It’s sad to think she went through that type of abuse that makes her scared of all people, even when she’s in a very loving home. On the bright side, we do know she won’t have to deal with that kind of abuse anymore or that any of our cats will have to be put through a situation like that again.

One thing I learned from rescuing my cats is that they aren’t bad cats because you get them off the street. All pets are gonna love just the same no matter where you get them. I personally believe that getting animals off the streets or from pounds is a better option than buying from a pet store. When Felipe came into my life he changed it for the better, and it shows because every time I talk about him my mood just brightens up. There is nothing that can break the bond and love I have for Felipe.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
