How 'Pokémon Go' Can Help You Give Back

Making the world a little better while playing the game.

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not into the whole “Pokemon Go” craze, but recently, I’ve started walking to get in shape and it got me thinking: why not make the most out of any walk? And then I started thinking “What if every person playing Pokemon Go could make the most out of their excursions?” Turns out, they can! Here are three ways to help give back to your community and the world while adding to your "Pokemon Go" collection:

Download an app (or apps!) that donate to charities based on how much you walk

I recently downloaded the CharityMilesapp, which allows you to pick a charity to walk for. For every mile, a sponsor donates money to the charity of your choice. And it doesn’t just have to be walking outdoors; the app tracks indoor workouts and even bike rides! Choose from various charities such as “Stand Up To Cancer,” the American Diabetes Association, ASPCA, Alzheimer’s Association, The Wounded Warrior Project, and many, many more. There are other apps, too, including fitRaise, One Water, and Strut Your Mutt.

Pick up litter while you play

When I was younger, my aunt used to gather up my cousins and me to go on walks all over town, but she handed us gloves and a trash bag before we left. This allowed us to pick up junk that had been tossed from windows or left on the side of the road and make our neighborhood look a little cleaner while getting our exercise in.

Walk a shelter dog while you play

One of the hardest things for shelters, kennels, and animal charities to do is find volunteers to take their dogs for walks and get them out of their cages for the day. Since "Pokemon Go" is based on getting its players to be active, it would allow dogs who are otherwise caged up to get out and see their neighborhoods, too. It’s basically a win-win situation: you don’t have to wander around town by yourself to find Pokemon, and the dog gets his or her exercise and makes a new friend.

"Pokemon Go" has prided itself on getting people out of their homes and comfort zones and making them be active, but why stop there? I think it would be so great to see even more positive things come from the game, and there are limitless possibilities to how that can happen! Gotta catch ‘em all, so why not make the world a little brighter while doing so?

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
