6 ways not to waste summer as a college student

In high school all summers were great because everyone was out at the same time and you always knew where everyone would be every summer. In college, we go away to states all over the country and get out of school at different times. We also have many friends that get apartments out of state and stay away for the summer. Instead of depending on others to entertain you all summer here are a couple of tips to keep yourself busy for the summer!

1. Summer Job

What's more common than having a job in the summer? Not having a job in the summer? Any who, some of the benefits of a summer job is a little extra cash when you go back to school, helps summer move along faster, and you get some work experience for your resume. Extra cash is always a good thing, you never realize how much you need it until you've got an empty fridge with just ketchup and last night's left overs. If you choose a university you enjoy and make a good amount of friends at, believe me when I say you will not be able to wait for fall semester to roll around. Therefore, helping time go by for a boring summer at home is a necessity!

2. Travel

The world we live in is huge and amazing, go out and enjoy it! Why would you spend your summer doing anything else when you can go see a city or country you've never been to before? Vacations can be the best way to spend time because they allow you to see new things and experience new adventures you might not be able to in your home state.

3. Gym Time

No time to get that 10/10 body during the school year? What do you think the summers are for? Get in the gym! One of the best ways to stay active and looking great during the summer is lifting. Even going for runs in the park are just as good to stay in shape. A lot of college students struggle to make time for fitness and staying active because of jobs and school but with an open summer you can get back to the gym and feel like that high school star athlete you once were!

4. New Hobbies

Finding new hobbies or things you enjoy can be a great way to keep yourself busy over a 3 month span. From taking pictures to making music to collecting stamps. No matter what you enjoy, do it to the best of your ability and maybe even master it over summer! Some hobbies don't have to be as complicated as learning a new instrument or even collecting stamps from across the world. They can be as simple as going to the park everyday and birdwatching. Yes, people actually do that and this is a no judge zone.

5. Blog

Blog, about everything and anything! Honestly, you are creative so why not show the world. Put your ideas out there for other people to see! Who knows you may even gain a small fan base and become a popular public figure like yours truly. Blogging sometimes has a negative connotation. When people think of blogging they think of critics, but I'll tell you right now that there are tons of positive bloggers. Whether sharing tips on recipes or blogging about life and love tips, blogging can be a great way to use your summer and help the time go by.

6. New Friends/Relationships

I know once upon a time Drake said "no new friends." and a lot of you ran with that, but making new friends isn't always that bad. Making new friends and connections over the summer can benefit you so much in college and even in the future. Especially if you are a people's person and like to talk and create new bonds don't let that go to waste. Who said you couldn't fall for someone over summer? Summer love is super common in college and it can also be a great way to find someone to not only spend time with but go one new adventure and travel with.

Now, with these tips, I've given you go out there and find something to do! You only have a limited amount of summers, don't let them go to waste.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
