College is a place where you have the time of your life for 4 years and then work for the rest of your life. Not only is it important to live life to the fullest every weekend, but it’s also important to keep your grades in check as well. I mean, isn’t that mainly why we’re here? If you feel like juggling schoolwork and a social life is putting on way too much stress, DON’T! Here are 10 ways you can balance your GPA and still have a social life.
HAVE A PLANNER….PLEASE?
I cannot stress this enough. It doesn’t matter how great your memory is. Without a planner, you WILL feel lost, TRUST ME! If you cannot afford one, go to one of the enrollment services, Academic Achievement Centers, and campus centers for a free planner provided by the University! I even put my personal reminders on there just so I can remember easily!
NOTE CARDS
These are pretty much life-savers for upcoming tests and quizzes! You can use these for pretty much anything!
DO NOT STUDY IN YOUR DORM…TRUST ME
I know what you’re thinking. WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? Yes, I know we have desks in our dorm rooms, however, your dorm room is the center for distractions. I could count how many times I took way too many breaks just to watch some TV or Netflix because they were available to me. Also, I had a roommate who would constantly blast music and dance at her desk…yes…I’m serious. What I did last semester was to go to the library on campus and I would get so much work done, and the best part…..NO DISTRACTIONS. Try studying on the quiet floor in your school’s library.
HAVE A GREAT GROUP OF FRIENDS
It’s always good to have a solid group of friends that you can turn up with but at the same time understanding that school is important for all of you. If it helps, you can study with some friends (yes, actually study) or ask them for advice about classes.
LIMIT PARTYING TO WEEKENDS
You can have fun during the week with some friends, but not too much fun to the point where you can't even focus on your upcoming test the next day. I understand that many students from my school go out on Thursdays because they don’t have any classes on Fridays’. But if you do have a class on Fridays’, partying can wait….
START PREPARING FOR THE EXAM A WEEK BEFORE
If you know you’re going to be busy the next week, start studying a week before so you’ll be less overwhelmed. Always check your syllabus for upcoming tests to prepare for them. (See, this is where your planner comes in!)
DRINK PLENTY OF WATER
Staying hydrated is the key to success honestly. Who doesn’t drink water?
YOUTUBE ASMR VIDEOS
I know what you’re wondering. What the heck is an ASMR? ASMR means “Autonomous sensory meridian response,” which are a series of various sounds that can help someone relax or fall asleep. When I’m stressed, I search up ASMR videos on YouTube and I feel so relaxed and stress-free! YouTubers who do ASMR videos make different sounds such as eating, drinking, tapping, whispering, and typing while using a microphone to enhance the sounds. You guys should honestly look into these videos!
VISIT THE GYM
Using the school gym honestly helps me clear my head after a long day. My personal favorite is the treadmill because I can run to the music.
