If you're in college, you may know that registering for classes isn't exactly the smoothest process. There's a lot of stress, contemplation, and aggravation that goes into finding your perfect schedule. And most of the time, your perfect schedule turns into whatever is most tolerable for allowing yourself to graduate on time.
This a basic idea of what registering for classes involves:
Preparation. A lot of preparation.
Once you are given your registration date and time, you either become fairly confident and laid back, or you’re totally freaking out. But let’s face it, even an early registration period provides no guarantees. There are countless classes to choose from, but with only so many options available, we are all in this mess together. We make endless wish lists, check out ratemyprofessor.com, schedule meetings with our academic counselors, seek out advice online, etc. If you want to be even remotely ready, you make sure to do your research beforehand.
And then, you wait.
Depending on when your registration date is, this may feel like an eternity. Watching others make their schedules before you is torturous as you sit on the sidelines, idly watching and waiting with impatience.
Going slightly insane.
Only college students can relate to the craziness this ensues; everyone else will write you off as over-dramatic. But to you, this is truly a mission. And as the time comes closer, this means waiting impatiently at your computer, eyeing down the clock as you count down the seconds until your registration portal opens. No interruptions, please. Otherwise there may will be some serious consequences.
Panic attacks.
Oh no. You start realizing that the classes you had originally signed up for are all filled up. What now?
Giving up.
That's it, it's time to throw in the towel. At this rate, you're fully convinced that you won't even graduate college anyway. You had a good run.
Success.
Just when you thought everything was going awry, you see an opening and snatch the class you want. Now you feel like a million bucks.
Making Sacrifices.
Do you really want to endure the nuisance of waking up early for those grueling 8 a.m. classes just for a decent teacher, or do you want to bear through a rough class with a less-than-ideal professor so that you can get your much-needed beauty sleep? Decisions, decisions.
Acceptance.
Once your schedule is finally complete, you sit back and look at it with interrogating, but forgiving eyes. It may not be perfect, but hey, you can live with that. It's doable.
Maybe next semester will be better.
