We welcomed November with arms wide open when she came baring temperatures in the low-60s after Halloween weekend. Then she was ever so kind as to continue her warmer than usual streak for about a week.
But then someone must have pissed her off and she came through full force with 5 inches of snow for us here in Muncie, Ind. on Sunday, Nov. 16. Lucky for Ball State, us Cardinals have our final home game this Saturday, Nov. 22.
All I have to say is that it’s a good thing layers are in season this fall because that’s the only way you’re going to be able to embrace the 40 degrees and rain at tailgate on Saturday.
Here’s how to not let the terrible Indiana weather beat you once again.
Bean boots.
The best part about these boots is that they are unisex. And they keep your feet warm and dry. Pair with a great pair of J. Crew Camper socks and you are guaranteed to stay warm and fashionable all day.
Tech gloves.
Every store makes gloves like this. Whether you spend $3 on a pair at Target or invest in a pair from Banana Republic, they’re guaranteed to let you text away on your phone without getting frostbite.
Anoraks.
These fleece-lined windbreakers will keep you from getting wet from the rain. Most come with a drawstring hood that is adjustable. The front pocket allows you to safely store your phone without getting water damage.
Flannels.
Again, a great unisex piece. They might be worn for fashion in the fall, but these button-ups get the job done for keeping you warm. Throw one on underneath your anorak and you’ll be the warmest human at tailgate.
Matching scarf and hat/head wrap.
You can mix and match color palettes and patterns. Every store has their unique style to bring in the fall. These trendy accessories add that extra step into your outfit while keeping your face warm from the blistering wind.
Hand warmers.
You can buy a pack of 10 for about $6. Go in with 5 friends and share ‘em. Or guys, you can pass ‘em out to the ladies in exchange for phone numbers. It’s a win win.
Drinks.
And if you plan on drinking at tailgate, try
making warm drinks. Apple pie is always a fan favorite. And my personal
favorite. Find the recipe here. *Always drink in moderation. Drinking more to
get your “alcohol coat” is a myth. It may make you feel like you’re getting
warmer, but your body temperature is decreasing.
Stay warm and dry this Saturday and go Cards!
