I hate to burst your bubble, but there's not a perfect person out there for you.
Perfection is a word we often use when describing something that's without flaw. Think about that home-cooked meal, that awesome outfit you put together, or your favorite genre of music. They're all perfect, right? Wrong! These things are beautiful and wonderful in their own right, but complete and flawless perfection in our world is completely unattainable.
In our current culture, we often go searching for this perfection in another person. They're perfect-looking, they have the perfect parents, the perfect faith, the perfect demeanor, and so on and so on. I'm sure you're already tired of reading the word "perfect" by now! For years, I followed this philosophy of a perfect man. I thought that the "one" I would marry would be, well, perfect!
The truth is, none of us are perfect. Ever since the fall of Adam and Eve, sin has plagued every single person that's entered this world. There is no one on this earth that's without brokenness and mistakes. We often twist falling in love with real love.
I fell in love with my boyfriend when he bought me roses for our first date. I fell in love with him when he surprised me with a carriage ride through Christmas lights. I still fall in love with him when we pray together and go on simple breakfast dates.
But I knew that I really loved him when times became tough. When my grandmother passed away, he was right there to dry my tears and make sure that everything was going to be okay. Every time I've been sick, he's taken care of me and made sure that I got plenty of rest and had medicine. When life seems to tear us apart with struggle, we fight back with the strength of God and it brings us closer together every single time.
I prayed for a perfect man, and God gave me His love and a Godly man to seek Him with.
Love is not perfect. Love takes work, commitment, selflessness, forgiveness, and patience. The only perfect form of love is the sacrificial love of Jesus. He covered our sins and our shame in that sacrifice and gave us complete freedom. Jesus is the only "One" to seek in perfect love. Through His love, we can love by His grace. Through His love, we can strive for a Godly marriage.
If you are single, pray for God to shine through you in His timing. I pray that He blesses your life with the beauty of love and laughter. If you are dating, challenge each other to start a devotional together. I promise that it will help you grow and thrive in your relationship.
This also goes for a marriage and while I'm not married, I pray that your marriage is filled with joy overflowing in the Spirit.
Love isn't perfect, but it is beautiful, good, and true.
