So it’s over, now what? We’ve all heard that line it’s not you it’s me. But what is the definition behind that line? Does he really mean he’s the one with the problem or is it just the easiest way to get rid of you? The key is to not blame yourself. Don’t feel guilty and think of ways you could have changed. Now that you’re out of this negative relationship, it’s time to focus on you.

1. Don’t immediately start searching for the next relationship

You don’t need a relationship to be happy! Yes, it may be nice to be in one, but for now, it’s time to enjoy living the single life.

2. Catch up with friends

Relationships can be time-consuming, so now that you’re out of one it’s time to go out with friends. Hang out with friends you haven’t seen in a while and catch up on the good old times. Gather around and do something fun! Go drool over the latest celebrity crush and have some much-needed girl talk.

3. Find yourself

With a relationship, there is a lot of compromising. Many times you start referring to yourselves as a unit, “we are doing this” and “do you want to come with us.” It’s time to think of what you want and focus on your dreams. Get to learn who you are again and spread those wings.

4. Try something new

Have you always wanted to learn how to play the accordion? Or learn how to bake a nice soufflé? Perhaps start a fashion blog? Or become the world’s greatest volleyball player? Well now’s your chance to put yourself out there and acquire new skills.

5. Keep moving forward

While you may see other couples and remember the countless walks and dates you and your man used to go on, don’t let that stop you. Don’t look back and dwell on the past. It’s okay to be emotional, but you have to keep moving forward. Look at the past as a memory, not something to control your future.

6. Don’t take your eye away from the prize

Don’t let the end of your relationship ruin your life. It’s over and it’s time to face it like an adult. If you’re stuck crying for months over the same guy holding a teddy bear and eating chocolate ice cream in bed while watching rom coms, then you have let it get the best of you. Don’t let a break up ruin your life. Let it be an experience that aspires you to become better. Let it be an experience that you learn from. Let it make you a better you.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
