It's that heart breaking time of year when the seniors in your sorority are graduating from college, and entering the real world.
Many of these soon-to-be graduates were the women who recruited you, and who gave you a sense of belonging within the chapter, when you went through recruitment. They are the ones who have strengthened the chapter over the past few years, and they believe in you, and your abilities to carry on their legacy. Often times, the one person we can connect with in the beginning of our college years, is our big.
Your big is your sister, your friend and, most importantly, she serves as a mentor, to help you through your last few crazy years of college.
Your big is the person who encourages you to go out. She is the one that participates in FIJI Islander Princess Philanthropy, and embarrasses herself because it's her senior year. You look up to her because she is completely comfortable with being her complete, funny self.
With this huge milestone approaching, I've compiled various strategies on how to cope with the fact that your big is graduating.
1. You choose not to believe it.
Sure, you can pretend your big isn't graduating all you want.
2. You can eat your feelings.
Eating this delicious pizza will fill the void in my heart, once my big is gone, right?
3. You bombard your big with texts and phone calls.
...Love me lots before you go.
4. You stalk the living hell out of all of your big's social media platforms.
I just want to know the big reason as to why you are leaving me.
5. You choose to worry about your own life, instead.
How can I think about myself when I can't stop thinking about how you're graduating? Which ultimately means that you're leaving me...
6. You die a little on the inside.
Maybe this isn't the best solution, but you leaving hurts my heart.
7. Let her go.
If you love something, you have to let it go. You're her little. She is going to miss you just as much as you are already missing her. She will make time out of her big girl schedule to come visit you, and on breaks, you will reunite and pick up right where you left off. The bond of big and little will never break. As for now, cherish your time and every minuscule moment that you have with her, before she graduates.
