In case you were unaware, being a hostess is not a difficult job at all. In fact, 9 times out of 10 I go to work, talk to my friends, walk a couple of parties to their tables, roll some silverware, and get paid for it. Of course, there are stressful times when we're really busy or people are mad at us, but overall, being a hostess is not a difficult job whatsoever and I can't possibly list enough reasons why I'm thankful for it.
1. I love my coworkers.
My coworkers hate the same things I do, love the same servers I do, and understand every little struggle we go through. We're all so close that most of the time, we just get paid to hang out with our friends at the restaurant.
2. "Just standing around" is basically part of the job description.
The minimal level of manual labor, as well as the ability to barely interact with guests if you don't want to, means that you can easily show up in any state of mind and get paid for it.
4. Guests typically have nothing to hate you for.
While we do interact with people, it's very minimal and there is also very little you can do to really mess up. It's impossible for us to give them the wrong sauce or forget to put in part of their order, because all we have to do is talk to them for 15 seconds, then leave.
5. The most annoying part is people moving tables.
When the worst part of your job is people requesting to move to a different table, as annoying as it is, we have it pretty darn good. While everyone else is dealing with legitimate issues like tables stiffing them or money going missing, we rarely have anything more annoying than walking someone back and them saying, "Um, I actually wanted a booth."
All jokes aside, I do actually care about my job, performance, and the guests. However, I will never stop giving thanks for how incredibly simple my job is and wouldn't give it up for the world (except maybe an actual career in like 6 months).
