It's that time of year again where everyone is talking about their new years resolutions. Rather than write what my new years resolution is, I'm going to write about everything I hope 2018 brings me
1. Self-Growth
We're all human, and we are nothing without self-growth. I like to say that I change a little every day as I experience new things. The girl you knew 6 months ago or even 2 months ago is not the same girl that stands before you now... Allow me to reintroduce myself.
2. Health
Health is one of the things in our lives that we can't control. We can however, manipulate our mindset to make the most out of a bad situation. Although health is mostly referred to when speaking about physical health, mental health is just as important. I hope 2018 brings me not only physical health but mental health as well so that I may continue to do the things that I love with the people I love.
3. Happiness
To be happy is to be fulfilled. It does not matter how much money you are making, or the crazy exclusive internship you got for the summer if you're not happy you are not fulfilled. But what does the word "fulfilled" mean anyway?
You know the feeling you get when you got a perfect score on an exam you thought you did terrible on? Or the feeling you get when you score a goal in your game? Or how about the times where you sit in your room and you have that feeling that everything is right in the world? Those feelings you have are because happiness has fulfilled you in ways you never thought possible
4. Good fortune
Often associated with money (or the little slip inside a fortune cookie) it doesn't have to be. Sure I hope 2018 brings me good fortune in that way of course, but I hope 2018 brings me good fortune in non-monetary ways as well.
I hope it gives me good fortune on the exams I take, and the adventures I go on. I hope 2018 blesses me by keeping my family happy and healthy. I hope those around me experience good fortune so they may experience what it means to feel happiness in their own way.
5. New relationships
May 2018 bring new relationships into my life. Who doesn't love making new friends? Whether it is while I'm at the gym, or behind the counter at work, or even just food shopping, I hope 2018 gives me new opportunity to become close to new people
When someone asks me what my new years resolution is this year, I won't say "a fit body" or "to do better in school." When someone asks me that infamous question, I'll answer by saying self-growth, health, happiness, good fortune, and new relationships. Because for 2018 to be better than 2017, it's going to take a lot more than just one thing I'd want to work on.
