Hometown Glory: Your Town Matters

Ever have that special secret place you always go to whenever you need to get away from people, work, school, or just life in general? Is it an abandoned house? A treehouse? Anywhere with nature? Generally speaking, are there certain places in this world that you take a big piece of you each and every day for the rest of your life?

Most people when they go to a different state/area that is out of their natural routine/element either think of the certain place as a party or just another shitty place for bad luck. In the state of the culture shock perspective, it is understandable to have certain feelings and thoughts of coming to an area you're not accustomed to. Whether it is good, bad, or downright messy, everything in life happens for a reason. Most of all, I believe that the places you go in life place a big part of yourself not just as a person but also your life ideals and values.

Anywhere you go in life, you'll face changes and challenges. They can be a variety of ups and downs, struggles, deaths, meltdowns, rebellious phases, reckless behaviors, or first feelings of love, betrayal, conflict, or hurt. We go through a variety of emotional, mental, physical, behavioral, and spiritual changes within ourselves. For better or worse, they are there to help guide us in the long run. Basically, it's a make-it-or-break-it kind of thing.

I got two special home away from homes. Now I won't go into my life story in this week's article; you can be on the lookout for that future excerpt of my life coming out probably by the time I hit 30 (If I make it to 30). I'm here to tell you to respect, value, and cherish what you have.

Our world is a vast array of land, waters, blue skies, plants, and people, of course. To this day, there are over 7 billion people in this world. 7 billion souls making it through each day, every day, in this little thing called life. I'm sappy for saying this but the world is an incredibly beautiful place. Your hometown? That dreadful, sucky, and shitty place you have a strong love/hate relationship with? It's probably one of the most beautiful towns in the entire world. You just didn't see it that time. Respect that town, believe in good things. You're capable of much more than just who you were at the time. Be Brave. Be Bold. Most of All, You Got This.

"I can do all things through Him who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
