Last Friday, in a tweet that has since been deleted, SNL writer Katie Rich had a few choice words to share with us on Twitter about President Donald Trump’s youngest son Barron.
Barron is Trump’s fifth child, and his first and only child with wife First Lady Melania Trump. Currently attending a private school in New York, President Trump has stated that son Barron will remain there for the duration of the school year.
Assuming the following year, as Barron is now the first-boy of the United States, that he will be homeschooled, SNL writer Katie Rich took it upon herself to make the following tweet:

Reading “Barron will be this country’s first homeschool shooter,” the tweet has caused a slew of controversy.
The controversy surrounding this tweet not only lies in the fact that Barron is a 10-year-old child, but also in the subject matter it brings up by jesting at the subject of school shootings. From Columbine to Sandy Hook, America has had a dark past with mass shootings, especially in schools, therefore it is understandable why this tweet may not have been taken lightly.
Immediately following the post, people took to arms to admonish Rich. The tweet remained live for three hours before Rich deleted her account. In the time that the tweet remained there was a harsh outcry from users for some form of action to be taken.
As stated, I believe it is important to understand, to remember that Barron is indeed just a child. Leave him alone. Let him be a child. Yes, there is a lot of controversy surrounding his father. Yes, he bears the Trump family name. Yes, he has lived a very lavish life. Yes, this all of this makes him an easy target, but no, this does not make it okay to make him a target. Do not put your disdain for President Trump on a 10-year-old child who is just being a kid. Let him be a kid. Leave Barron alone.
On the matter school shootings, our country has seen so much tragedy, experienced so much loss, and been through too many to try and make a comment like this. It was highly inappropriate, and incredibly insensitive. The pain those victims’ families have been through, it just unacceptable.
Following the controversy, Monday afternoon Rich restored her twitter to apologize for her actions, and sources say she has been suspended from her job with ‘SNL’ indefinitely for making the tweet.
I hope this will serve as a lesson to you all on being intelligent about what you say, but also a wake-up call to leave Barron Trump, a child, out of your political hate fire, and just let him be a kid while he still can.
