The Realities Of Being Homeschooled, As Told By 'Friends'

It's so hard to care when you're this relaxed.

There are so many different views and thoughts on homeschooling in today's society. Some of them are true, some are way off and some have partial truths to them. With that being said, I'm here to tell you the realities of being homeschooled, as told by the cast of "Friends."

1. You have to be a little bit more disciplined than all those regular schoolers.

If you have to teach yourself or focus on getting your work done on your own, you need to have the discipline to achieve that. It's very easy to get distracted in your own house.

2. Social Interaction.

So many people assume that homeschoolers never get out and never have any social interaction and this makes me laugh. I have more free time and more of a social life now than I did at a regular school, so yes, it is possible for homeschoolers to be social. That being said, though, it does get a little lonely when all your friends are in school and you're stuck at home alone with your cat.

3.It's hard to stay focused.

It's so easy to get distracted, as I said in point one, but when you really fall off the wagon and get relaxed for the day, it is so hard to really care and put yourself back on track. Until the next day when you need to do two days' worth of work, that is.

4. Sometimes your material seems made up.

You have to teach yourself, right? So sometimes when you're doing your English class, you come across a word that you have never seen before in your entire life and it just seems so fake. Is the English language even real? It makes you wonder a lot, having to teach yourself.

5. When the test is different than all the work you've done in your lessons.

This happens even for homeschoolers. I can do a PACE and think, "Oh, yeah, I got this." and then move on to the test the next day and be completely shocked at what I'm seeing because I've never seen it before.

6. There is no dress code that says what you need to wear, and you aren't trying to impress anymore.

You can wear your pajamas all day long, all week long and no one is going to call you out on it. Your cat may judge you, but when do they not? Wear the same shirt three days in a row. Wear your pajamas all day long. It is your homeschool right to do such.

7. You have busier days homeschooling than ever before.

You sometimes run errands with Mom, have an impromptu doctor's/dentist appointment, go grocery shopping, hang out with some friends and still get your schooling done. Often, some school that you've never seen before in your life and had to learn on your own (maybe with the help of Google). And you have time to get a job or two around your schooling, so, yeah, you have long days. You deserve a bubble bath and some you time.

8. At the end of the day, a lot of your friends are in school until three and you're usually done by noon.

Anyone want to go shopping or to lunch? Oh, you're all in school. Nevermind, I'll just take my cat, I guess.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
