Minuteman - a member of a class of American militiamen who volunteered to be ready for service at a minute's notice.
Baton Rouge, LA has been thrust into the media spotlight after the senseless slaying of two Baton Rouge officers and a sheriff deputy from a nearby parish. Our homeland minutemen are being executed. We know that our police department protects and serves us, but who is protecting and serving our police department?
The media has given so much attention to Rouge officers that the entire police force in America has taken on the label. One bad apple spoils the bunch. The coverage of these bad apples has slanted our views and perspectives of our police force, so much that there is now an epidemic of police officer assassinations.
In the wake of all media coverage, there are individuals who have forgotten to appreciate our police force. As a country, we have forgotten to appreciate our police force. There is so much news highlighting what goes wrong and not enough news that highlights what is going right. Bill Clinton said, "There's nothing wrong with America that cannot be cured by what's right with America." There is more good in this world than the bad, but when "if it bleeds, it leads" is the filtering mechanism for our news stories, then the good and the right has no chance.
Every day, our police officers step away from their families, their neighbors, their homes, and step onto the battlefield. They put their uniform on just as our soldiers do as they are preparing for battle. Our police officers fight in a war on American soil in their own neighborhoods, cities and towns. They are on the streets fighting for freedom in our communities.
Our police officers are our minutemen. They have voluntarily entered into their force to serve and protect. They are ready to serve and protect at a minute's notice. They receive a call that leads them to danger while everyone else is going the opposite direction. While they are protecting us, their lives are on the line.
We cannot forget that our brothers and sisters in blue are our protectors. Light a blue light so they know that we appreciate and love them, that we know and understand they are the humble protectors and servers of our communities.
