Homecoming Explained By How I Met Your Mother

Homecoming is easily the best time of the year. I could post pictures of myself being excited about homecoming season being upon us, but I'm pretty sure the How I Met Your Mother crew can do it better. Here is the wonderful world of homecoming illustrated by How I Met Your Mother.

You love your school

I love school pride, you love school pride, we love school pride, school pride rocks. It's the second month of school, and classes are just about starting to lag. Sitting in class taking notes, trying to stay awake for your professor has literally become the hardest thing ever. BUT suddenly the whispers of homecoming buzzing and your brain begins to perk up. Is this real life? Another year has started, and it's time to celebrate what has come before us! Your school means a lot to you, honestly it's your home away from home. But when homecoming less than a week away, WOOOOOO boy do you suddenly love your university.

Judge all those who don't

Of course like any other school, you're going to have the students who are just 'too cool' to care about going to anything. They avoid any school involvement by just going to class, and doing absolutely anything not put on by their university. Just because they go to XYZ University, doesn't mean they have to love their university and be associated with it. And honestly, that hurts you. What the heck are they not seeing about this magical place? #judging! So as Ted Mosby would say to those friends, we're not angry at you, just disappointed.

Rocking your free shirts

You know all those shirts you've either been given during college or caught at sports games? You finally have somewhere to wear them! Besides wearing them as your gym clothes, it's finally the one time of year that your school is basically begging for you to wear them. During the week of homecoming, it's like the students have suddenly turned into a wave solely including your school colors. You love representing your school, but what in the world matches these crew cut basic tshirts? It will definitely be a challenge to make these shirts looks good with the rest of your fabulous wardrobe, but I'm sure you're up for the challenge. #challengeaccepted

Becoming best friends with alumni

If you love your school, it will always have a special place in your heart. So when suddenly you bring together thousands of people that all share a common love for your school, it's time to make best friends. The day may start out a wee bit rocky; while trying to figure out if the people you're talking to are alumni or just family members of other students here. There should be some type of dress code, because this whole guessing game is harder than it looks. As the day progresses you've probably made a few good connections, you start bonding over similar professors, and laugh over the fact that they are still ancient, and still working at the university. By the end of the night, you don't want to leave. You've heard so many hidden gem stories about the university, and you just don't want it to end. Alas, homecoming can only last so long, so you hug it out and hope to meet more awesome friends the next year.

Freaking out at the football game

If your school isn't too big on attending every single football game, this one is probably the big shebang. It's time to put on a killer outfit, and break out the face paint, and washable tattoos. Grab the foam fingers they handout randomly during the year, and put those babies to good use. When actually at the football game, it's about to get real. You call up your friends that are already there, try to find them while screaming into the phone because you can't hear over all the other conversations going on around you. You make eye contact and then suddenly notice your killer outfit you decided to wear, is the exact same thing that all your close friends are wearing #twinning. Once you've finally accepted the fact that you look like a clone, your cheering talents are ready to be unleashed. You have absolutely NO idea what just happened in the game, but you are cheering your head off because the rest of your section is. Whether you're a football fanatic or not, going to the homecoming football game is such an event in itself, that you can't help but absolutely love going to it and experiencing it year after year.

Homecoming is an incredible time for those who are still in school to learn from their elders, and for those to also reflect on their time spent at their university. College is typically a four year journey (or more #supersenior), whether you had the time of your life of not, it will forever be a chunk of your life that you'll never forget. Homecoming is the best time of the year my friends, absorb the amazingness that happens on this special day, and know that you are apart of your schools history.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
