It's Friday afternoon, and you decide you want to take a break from the college scene for the weekend. You pack up all your dirty laundry you can fit in your bag and start the drive home.
"Home," as in your hometown. Where you grew up, where your family is. If you're older than a college freshman, the meaning "home" can easily change to your college town.
Whether you live in a big city or small town, going home is always a nice little getaway.
Here are some things you should do when you visit your hometown.
Shop or eat at your favorite small business
If you used to frequent a certain place before you left for college, make sure to stop in. Shop at the cute boutique where you found your high school graduation dress, and eat at the hot dog stand with the rootbeer to die for. It's good to go back and remember some of your old favorite things, and they'll appreciate the business.
Spend time with your extended family
You don't see them unless it's a holiday or family get together. Make an effort to visit your grandparents. Take your younger siblings and cousins to go see a movie and go out to dinner afterwards. They look up to you and want to see you more often.
Visit your high school
If you really liked your high school, go visit! Stop in to say hi to the secretaries and some of your old teachers. They want to know how school is going and how you're doing in general. Thank them for everything they've done for you over the years, because you honestly wouldn't be attending college without their help. Walking the halls after you graduated is literally like walking down memory lane.
Watch a game
Is your brother on the soccer team? Go see a game! You don't get to watch him play very often, so it's important that you go if you're available.
Relax at home
Lay on the couch under your favorite blanket, watch a movie and cuddle with your dog. Pretty soon this home will just become your parents house and you'll have a place of your own, so embrace it while you can. So light a candle, pour a glass of wine and watch all the snapchat stories of everyone at the bars back at school.
