One of the many ideas that come to mind around the holidays is family. Most people spend all day traveling to see their family members and then exchanging stories all night over a delicious meal. Sometimes, people dread the holidays because they need to see their families and do the exact same thing. I spend the day at home, with my parents.
I used to hate the fact that I didn’t have a place to go to on the holidays or get the chance to dress up like all of my friends. Sometimes I would dress up anyway and just sit on the couch with my heels and would watch TV all day until it was time to eat. Other holidays I would visit a friend’s house in the early afternoon and then go back to my house to eat. It wasn’t until recently when I realized how much I appreciate my small family holidays.
Since I don’t have anywhere to go to, I can stay in my pajamas ALL DAY. Holidays are the comfiest day of the year because in my house, pjs are encouraged. I also don’t have to answer the same questions from every relative of my family, nor do I have to defend any of my answers. I do miss my family members, but nobody misses this. I also don’t have to wait for everyone to get to my house before we begin eating, because this part is always harder than you think on the holidays. Someone is always late and by the time they get there you’re about to eat your own hand. I also get to spend some quality time with my parents, which I don’t get to do as often as I’d like. Life gets in the way and we all have busy schedules so the holidays are the perfect excuse to sit down and just talk.
The way we spend our holidays varies from family to family. Some families take all day to eat their meals while others eat their meal in 20 minutes. At the end of the day, the most important thing is that we spend time with the people who truly matter. Holidays are a time for love, friends, family, and delicious food.
