Almost every Black Friday, shelters in the state of Washington, or anywhere else around the country, hold adoption events where the adoptions fees on black animals (and animals that are mostly black) are waived so that they can possibly find homes before the holidays. This is an amazing opportunity for shelters to advertise their black animals who haven't found a home yet because all the other animals are looked at more than they are.
But many other shelters are also starting to waive adoption fees around the holidays. They are receiving offers from thoughtful individuals who are offering to pay for all the adoption fees of animals adopted.
There is a syndrome that goes around animals shelters across the US. It is called black animal syndrome when black cats and dogs are looked over by potential adopters. If you think about it, some people might find black cats scary since there is a superstition where it warns you not to let a black cat cross your path. Or maybe some people might consider black dogs more aggressive, which is not the case at all. The whole "that black cat/dog is more aggressive" is simply a myth or rumor. I have met plenty of black dogs and cats, and they were absolute sweethearts.
The Seattle Humane Society in Seattle, Washington, holds a Black Cat Friday event on Black Friday. They are "waiving adoption fees on every black, black-speckled, black-spotted and black-striped cat or kitten." I'm sure any college student who is looking for a companion and loves cats would be going nuts over this event. If you are thinking of adopting a cat who has some black in their coat, go check out the Seattle Humane Society. Or, if you know someone looking for the purrrrfect friend, hook them up! I'm sure the would purrr in agreement of a happy home filled with catnip!
Apart from it being the holidays and Black Friday and Washington-based shelters, the Front Street Animal Shelter in the city of Sacramento, California, is waving all adoptions fees on their animals in hopes of them finding a home for the holidays. A kind and caring woman named Kim Pacini pledged to pay for every animal's adoption fee up until December 31. How amazing is that? So not only will black animals be adopted, but all the other animals have a chance of adoption. If you are a Cali resident and are looking for a forever-friend, go head to the Front Street Animal Shelter ASAP!
In Riverside, California, the Mary S. Roberts Pet Adoption Center are also waving all pet adoption fees. Their campaign Home for the Pawlidayz is their way of trying to help the animals in their shelter find a home for the holidays.
Many of these animals have sat year after year, holiday after holiday, in a kennel at the shelter rather than in someone's arms. Why not give an animal the most wonderful gift of all this time of year: a home filled with love? So many shelters are working hard to find their animals homes, especially in time for the holidays.
