While winter break means no classes, it also means the party season is now at its peak. Holiday parties are in full swing, but with that comes a few things we're all bound to experience.

1. Trying to decide what to wear.

It's really quite the process.

2. Debating what dish to make.

There may be an odd request or two from family members.

3. Finally deciding what to make...only to have it be a flop.

Eh, just blame it on a younger sibling.

4. OK, it may be faster to just order pizza.

Let the pizza toppings war begin.

5. Political conversations break out, and people want your opinion.

Of course I have opinions, but can we not do this now?

6. People asking about your major, relationship status, and life plan for the 15th time.

How much did they expect these answers to change since the last time you were asked ten minutes ago?

7. Your answer, of course, isn't what they wanted.

There's always the next holiday when we can do this again.

8. The same stories are told every. Single. Year.

You know the story so well it's as if you were there.

9. Someone asks you about next semester classes.

Can we please focus on something else?

10. Food at holiday parties is just automatically better, no matter how simple.

Is there a stopping point?

11. At the end of the day, even through the holiday drama...

They're still your family and friends, and you love them no matter what.

* * *

The holiday season can be stressful, but it's still such a great time of year. Sit back and enjoy being around everyone back home while you can because winter break will be over before you know it.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
