History is such an underrated subject. Growing up it was always the one I enjoyed the most, but many of my classmates didn't feel the same way. In my opinion, History is too important of a subject to be tossed to the side of our education. History is the story of us. It is how we came to be in the place we are today. If any small thing had happened differently, then our world today would not have been the same. It completely baffles me why we do not treat history as crucial as we should. We all have heard the quote that those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it. Without understanding our past, how could we ever hope to move forward?
History is not just the story of our accomplishments, but also the track record of our mistakes, mistakes that keep happening. If we begin to take history for granted, and begin to warp it to make ourselves look better than the truth of our story will be lost in time, and we will have no clear course of action but to continue making the same mistakes. We seem to be in a never-ending loop of mistakes that stretch back farther than most people would imagine. America for example, is making many of the same mistakes Rome did. These mistakes paved the road for the empire's ultimate collapse, and here we are ignoring the clear warning they left us.
History is what we make it to be.We are living history right now. In a hundred years they will be learning about the things we do today, so let’s give them something to be proud of, instead of just another boring chapter that would best be forgotten.
