Let's pretend for a moment that you know nothing about Hillary Clinton. I know that it's hard, but just humor me. What would you say about this woman? Would you sling insults? Would you say that her pantsuit makes her look fat? Dull? Ugly? Boring? A witch lady? Would you critique her makeup? Her haircut? Would you ask about her policy? Probably not.
And now let's pretend that you don't know anything about Donald Trump. What would you say about him? Would you say that he looks professional? Like a good businessman? Like a "winner"? Would you talk about his policy? I'd have to say yes.
I only ask this because these are all real things that I've seen. I understand that a lot of people don't like Hillary Clinton, but you shouldn't critique her in a way that you wouldn't critique a man.
I've heard people say that Hillary can't be president because her pantsuits are awful. I've heard people say that Hillary Clinton can't be president because she has periods (even on her period, she's much more behaved then Donald Trump). These remarks are only caused by one thing: the overwhelming thought that it's okay to talk about women like this.
It's awful. If you're going to critique anyone in the race, please do so with decorum and facts. Every time I see someone result to the pantsuit argument or hear the media talk about what Hillary is wearing, I think about voting for her just out of spite.
Fox News has been the most guilty party of this lately, but there have been others.
Republicans who claim that Trump will be better for women don't know how to treat women. Like it or not, Hillary Clinton is a major party nominee and she should be treated with the same respect as her male colleagues and opponents.
Next time you get into a political debate, perhaps bring up her disability policy, her healthcare policy , or her early education policy (not that I disagree with any of these policies, but they're some examples of her worth, other than being a woman).
Nobody seems to talk about her issues. They only talk about how she's a criminal, she should be in jail, and I even heard someone in the Republican party say she should be shot. That is not decorum, and if that's your only argument against Hillary Clinton, then you won't win my vote.
So please, next time you feel the urge to make a comment about Hillary that you would not make about a man, zip it and look for some actual policy to discuss. Saying "she's a woman who belongs in jail" does not solve our student debt crisis or the problems in the Middle East. Bring something to the table other then insults because you'll probably get a lot farther that way.
