4 Things The DNC Taught Us

4 Things The DNC Taught Us
“Let us toast to animal pleasures, to escapism, to rain on the roof and instant coffee, to unemployment insurance and library cards, to absinthe and good-hearted landlords, to music and warm bodies and contraceptives...and to the 'good life,' whatever it is and wherever it happens to be.”

1. History repeats itself.

Yet again, a woman's intellect, values and ethics are not considered solely due to her genitalia. Hillary Clinton's nomination is the embodiment of not only injustice, but sexism. Her actual ethical dilemmas have been fully ignored for full focus on the fact that she is a woman.

2. The more the person looks like the embodiment of "The Purge," the more likely they will win the nomination.

Sorry for dragging you into this one, Bill.

3. The DNC is not actually concerned with injustice.

As Hillary claims progression, her defense of a rapist in 1974, current support for AIPAC (a contract with Israel to fiscally fund ethnic cleansing), hefty issues with gay marriage and even her approval of the Trans-Pacific Partnership prove her current stance of "justice" to be false.

Both Bernie Sanders and Jill Stein are concerned solely and genuinely with righting all injustices, giving power to the people and creating well-being and freedom for all. However the DNC ensured they would not be honored, helped or supported in any way. They ensured any candidates with real progression and dedication to fixing our world would go largely unnoticed and even ridiculed.

Another example of ending any type of progression: Code Pink was also shut down, silenced and forced out by security and Hillary protesters during the DNC (the same could be seen at the RNC, but that's obviously expected). Code Pink is an organization, Women for Peace. During the DNC, Code Pink protesters could be seen with pro-Palestinian signs (to advocate for Palestinian rights, as our country finances the slaughter of Palestinians in Palestine). However, their voices were silenced during Cuomo's vomit of a speech and they were removed and silenced by both security and Hillary supporters. If anyone is interested in seeing this occur, I do have a live video recording from the DNC.

If the DNC was concerned with injustice, Cornel West's and Berta Caceres' warning of our lack of humanity would be taken seriously and not simply tossed aside to continue slitting throats. Instead, the DNC embraced injustice and ignorance when nominating Clinton, a politician who is dedicated to not only corruption, but hideous pantsuits.

Editor's note: Although Hillary claims she had to defend the rapist, I would argue that no one has to defend rapists. As someone running for the office of President of the United States, she should be familiar with our Constitution. Although not specifically mentioned, defending rapists is not a law, and thus she legally did not have an obligation to follow through, Hillary made the choice to continue to represent a rapist who raped a 12-year old girl. Not to mention, the rapist walked free.

“He was lucky to have her as a lawyer...In terms of what’s good for the little girl? It has been hell on the victim. But that wasn’t Hillary’s problem.”

4. Your votes do not matter and they will not be counted.

This is not to say that you should not vote, but rather it means you should be pissed about how little your vote is being taken seriously by our government.

With many delegates chanting, "Count our votes!" it became unfortunately apparent that votes for Sanders had not been taken into consideration, not that his campaign was ever taken seriously by the DNC to begin with. In a supposed democracy, there is not one case where our votes actually go towards choosing the next President of the United States. Primaries? If our votes were legitimately counted for that, we would be seeing a certain Vermont senator in place of Lady Purge. Electoral college, gerrymandering, the list of our forced lack of involvement goes on. Give the power to the people. Let us genuinely vote and we will be able to have a fair election.

Until then, the government is literally telling us, "Eff off! What're ya gonna do 'bout it? Nothin'!" as they chuckle, drinking the blood of refugees.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
