Before you even start high school, everyone will always (excitedly) tell you, "High school will be the best four years of your life" And while for some, that's a true statement. For others, it's the biggest lie they've been told so far. I don't miss high school and it was not the best four years of my life and that's OK.
For me, high school was nothing but 4 years worth of bullying. 4 years of people making jokes about how quiet I was and making fun of my name, which obviously was something I could not control. I dreaded going to school every day. Sure, I was getting a great education, but I also spent most of the day, every day, watching the clock, waiting for the final bell to ring so we could all go home. I dreaded walking in those front doors at 7:50 a.m. and I looked forward to the moment I'd be walking out at the end of the day.
High school was nothing but a popularity contest. The same people got nominated for homecoming court and for senior superlatives. Some people looked at you differently if you didn't wear $200 jeans with a $400 purse on your shoulder.
High school was nothing but filled with pure drama. You always heard about what someone said on Twitter and how many people retweeted it and all of that just continued in a vicious cycle. Social media took a huge part in this drama and there was never a day where you didn't see someone running down the hallway and crying because of what terrible rumors were going around about them.
The best years of your life are yet to come and while high school had some great moments and gave me a few great memories, it wasn't the best 4 years of my life and I didn't expect it to be.
