Being a college student for a couple of weeks now, I have spent a lot of time thinking about how I was prepared for this chapter of my life. My senior year of high school was by far the best year of school yet, and I have many great memories that I will cherish for the rest of my life. Here are just a few tips for seniors to have a memorable and positive senior year experience:
1. Avoid drama at all costs
This is an important one. This is your last year with the friends you have grown up with, you don't have time for drama. You don't want to spend the last months where all of your friends are in the same city worrying about petty drama. You want to look back at your senior year and remember all of the fun times you had, not the bad ones.
2. Go to school events, even if they aren't your favorite
Whether it be sporting events or school dances, go to the events at your school. It's a great way to support your classmates and be involved with your school. When you look back at high school these will be the times you remember and you don't want to regret not going.
3. Make sure to show your appreciation
Being at college without my high school friends and my family, it makes me realize how lucky I am to have such a great support system. Make sure that you tell the people in your life "thank you" as much as you can, for next year they could be miles away.
4. Even though it's senior year, don't slide too much
The "senior slide" is most definitely a thing and it is a super easy trap to fall into. Even after you start getting accepted to colleges, make sure you still put effort into your schoolwork. It will be a lot easier to adjust to the academic atmosphere of college if you continue good study habits your senior year.
5. Pick your college for you, and only you
Your best friend may be going to California, your boyfriend to New York, and your sister to Texas, but don't let this influence your college choice too heavily. Go to the college that is the best fit for you, and only you. You will quickly learn that people who are meant to be in your life will remain in your life, no matter how far away they are.
