I Graduated High School Two Years Ago And No, They Weren't The Best Four Years Of My life
Kathryn Rondeau

High school is supposed to be the best four years of your life and graduation is the culmination of it all. But why? Why would you want to peak at 18 years old? Enjoy high school! Love it! Make friends, learn a lot, try new things, have lots of fun, make memories, dream big, do your best. But please, do not think that it's the best life is ever going to get.

I loved high school, really I did. Two years out and I still have the same friends (plus tons more from college) and I enjoy reminiscing on it from time to time, but really, why do we glorify ages 14- 18 so much? Things get so much better after high school, truly it does. In college, you can be your own person and work toward making your dreams come true. You can learn who you are and study what you love. You can network and be independent. But guess what, that STILL shouldn't be the best four years of your life.

Why does the best part of everyone's life have to be the same? And why does it have to come in a clump? When you graduate college you're still only 22 years old. Why do you want the best to be behind you? Why can't life just keep getting better?

I'm not telling you to keep wishing for the future, although college is pretty great. Live in the moment because right now, high school should be the best time of your life. It's the last time you're going to live with your parents with your childhood friends right down the road. It's the last time your parents will pay for everything for you. And trust me, it's the easiest your education and probably life will ever be again, so don't stress on that too much.

So, no, I really don't miss high school. I miss some of my friends and my teachers that meant so much to me. I miss my family, but I can go home on breaks, and I miss the memories, but I have pictures. High school was great and all, but life does get better, so don't be too sad about graduation approaching. This also isn't to say don't be excited about graduating. You did it! It's a huge accomplishment and you deserve to celebrate, but know that the future will be even better.

Also, if you hated high school, know that your future will be amazing because you don't have to see any of your classmates ever again.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
