Since high school seniors are starting their last semester of high school, I have been seeing many posts on Twitter telling them to enjoy it, don't let it pass by too fast, and that it is the best part of their lives so they need to enjoy every single moment of it before they are off to college.
This is not me saying, "No, don't enjoy it. High school is literally the worst thing you will ever experience." Because well, that is not true. But it's also not true that high school is the best four years of your life either.
High school taught me a lot about people. How to spot a fake friend from the moment they say "Hi" to getting over something or someone fast because it's just not worth the time or effort. Both of which I have found helpful and have saved me a lot of heartbreak in college.
I keep up with a handful of people that I graduated with and when I come home, I spend quality time with maybe one person in my class. The fact is some people you are just friends with in high school because you see them everyday or maybe needed to share answers on a math assignment. Friendships from high school will fizzle out once everyone is off to college and that's perfectly okay.
This first semester of college has been the best few months of my life. I have met people that I have no idea how I lived without before. They have helped support me through this tough transition and I did the same for them.
So to that high school senior reading this, it is perfectly okay to be looking forward to college and counting down the days like I did, almost to the minute. High school is the furthest thing from the best thing in your life and if high school has honestly sucked the whole time for you, that is fine too. High school isn't everything no matter how many times you are told it is.
