High School Homecoming VS. College Homecoming

Which one is really better?

High School Homecoming VS. College Homecoming

We've all been in high school at one point in our lives and our experiences are all different. However, homecoming was an event everyone experienced. Some high schools didn't value homecoming compared to how other schools did, but it was always something that came around in September or October. In my high school, spirit week, powderpuff games, pep rallies, the homecoming football game, bonfires and the homecoming dance were all things that we couldn't wait for. Being able to dress silly and fun was something my friends and I looked forward to every year. Being juniors and seniors you had the privilege to play in powderpuff game and it was so. much. fun!!! I was always so excited to go to the homecoming football game Friday night with all my friends and maybe get lucky enough to wear a football players jersey to the game.

Then it was always the thought of who you were going to the homecoming dance with, what dress you were going to wear, and who would be in your "group." To think that is what we stressed about years ago makes me laugh. But these are the things about high school homecoming that my entire school, and other high schools, looked forward to every year. It was a break from the normal school weeks that we were so use to. My senior year homecoming week was an emotional week, because everything that you loved about homecoming would be no more once you went away to school.

I didn't know what to expect during my first college homecoming, and I really didn't know things would be so much different. I thought we would have dances and a spirit week, at least something that was similar to high school. I was so very wrong and it made me so upset. There was lots of school spirit around me, but it was not the same as it was in high school. Yes I know we are all "adults" here, but who doesn't love a pep rally where the different classes compete or a Friday night homecoming game where you dress silly and go support your team!

I had to get into the swing of how college homecomings really were and learn how to accept that. There are things about college homecomings I do like, don't get me wrong; like the tailgates, the amount of people at the games and the different activities during homecoming week, but it just was not the same. Depending on the university, the homecoming may be really big or extremely small. I have been to several college homecomings and they are all different. There is something about college homecoming that will never be able to compare to the excitement of high school homecomings.

So in my opinion, my high school homecomings were better than my current college homecomings. They are both a time of celebration and cheering on our teams, but one experience was more memorable. Maybe it is because the size of college is bigger compared to high school and in high school you feel more connected, but whatever the reason may be high school wins this debate!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
