I don't know about everywhere, but where I'm from Friday night football is a big deal! It's arguably one of the most important things in the south. It basically defines who we are as a city or town. I recently went to my first high school football game since I graduated, and it was bittersweet. I loved getting the chance to see some of my old friends, but not knowing the starting players was weird. Just know, it's going to be different. Maybe you have never had to buy a ticket, and now you have to. Maybe this is your first game, not on the field. Or maybe it's your first time not in the student section.
In high school, I was in the band. So for me, I wasn't tied down to a section at the game for once, and it was great. I was able to talk to people for more than half a quarter. I was able to enjoy the game, for what it really is. Don't get me wrong, I had some good times being in the band. But would I go back to those days? Heck no. I know I literally just graduated, but I wouldn't go back to my high school days for anything. I love that I chose a college farther away, and I believe everyone should try to get out for at least a little bit. However, going to the game showed me how much I miss my little town, and some of the people in it.
It's extremely bittersweet, but make the most of it.
This is one of those "adulting" moments we all like to think about. It's different, it's new, and it can be hard. Be optimistic, and have fun! Go with some of your friends, hit up a local hot spot before the game, and enjoy it. So, just know that as you go to your alum's games, you will probably feel a roller coaster of emotions, but it is normal(even if you weren't the most spirited person in high school)!
