6 Things I Want To Tell My Best Friend Every Single Day
Erica Schimel

Yes, I am talking to you. You are my best friend and nothing in this world can change that. We finish each other's sentences and say the exact same thing at the exact same time. It's kind of freaky, yet cool. Just like when we put our minds together, we can predict the future. We are a powerful force, especially when we wear our coordinate necklaces of each other's locations. We are always together, no matter the distance. Here a couple of things I want you to know each and every day.

1. I love you.

Every phone call, text, and hang out ends with these three powerful words. I love you to the moon, never mind, past the moon, to infinity and beyond! I will never get tired of saying/ hearing these words to/from you. You mean the world to me. You are 500 miles away from me, but our daily FaceTimes makes the distance feel shorter. (Thanks for always taking pictures of us on FaceTime when I'm not ready!)

2. Thank you.

I wouldn't be the person I am today without you. You flat out told me when I have to stop crying like a baby and grow up or just simply giving me advice and helping me become stronger. I mean those 5 a.m. deep conversations would mean nothing, if you weren't the other person I was talking to. Thanks for taking care of me and listening to everything I have to say (even if it's me saying it again for the 500th time or some stupid drama.)

3. Stay with me.

You are never allowed to leave me. I don't know what I would do without you. We are going to grow old together, so we can show our grandkids what our hair looked like before dying it, all the stupid risks we took, and show them pictures and videos of days we said were "the best days of our lives."

4. You're special.

I knew right from the moment I met you we were going to last forever. Just kidding. That's a lie. I hated you. Only our hatred can turn into love and a beautiful friendship. Think about it, if I never hated you, I wouldn't have used you in Spanish class, and then we would have NEVER spoken. Everything happens for a reason!

5. You are my best friend forever.

We are not even best friends anymore, “...we are sisters, we stand together, we make up one big family, though we don't look the same" (Cheetah Sisters). I have a gut feeling you will be crying with me, standing next to me, and I will be asking you, “Do I say 'I do?'" I ask you everything else I should do, so you have to make sure I don't make a mistake on this one. Then, we can dance to my wedding song (which you already know what it is), stuff our faces with cake, and reminisce on when we were young. Better have a great speech. Pressure's on.

6. Have the best.

Yes, there are six things I want to tell you, not five. You know me, one for good luck! Our friendship doesn't need luck because our bond is unbreakable, but I do not want you to settle for anything/anyone less. I want you to have the best of everything. Don't ever think you are not enough, because you play a huge role in my life. I can't believe it has been only three short years, it feels like I knew you for a lifetime. That is how I know you and I will be drinking wine together, talking about the neighborhood drama, while our children are having a playdate. Can't wait to grow old with you! I love you.

Here is the first picture we ever took together. Damn, do we look good!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
