Getting Hero-fied

My own superhero journey.

I love superheroes and I'd love more than anything to be one. I love to help others and it bothers me greatly when I can't help those important to me.

Obviously being a superhero isn't really possible but it makes for great comics, movies and shows. The question remains though, if I could be any, what kind of comic hero would I be?

Hero Categories

There are many different types of superheroes in the comic book universe. There's tech heroes, mutants, weapon-based, people who are born with abilities and many more. If I was going to categorize me I'd probably want to be a mixture between a ninja and a tech hero. I know, I know, that sounds like Batman or Batgirl-- there's a reason Batman is my favorite. Other than the story itself, the type of hero Batman is, is actually my favorite kind. I've always really liked ninjas and assassins and I also love technology; it's the perfect combination!

I like tech heroes because they can be anyone who's super smart. If you want to create some fancy gadgets, then some disposable funds help, but you don't necessarily need them. People who are tech heroes can analyze what's around them and they strategize more in order to make things or equip the gadgets and devices around them to take down the enemy.

You have more options because you don't have set abilities that you work the battles around.

As for Ninjas, I love them because you never know where they're lurking. You always have the element of surprise which is a very important skill to possess. I like the idea of sneaking up on the enemy and scaring the life out of them; I feel like the enemies would always be afraid of you. Something I also like about Ninjas are their fighting styles and their arsenal of weapons they use. Guns are so overrated in my opinion; throwing stars, gasses and pure martial arts are much more interesting to watch and I feel it takes more strategy, it keeps life interesting!

Powers

On to powers, I personally don't think Powers make a hero. Anyone can be a hero, it comes down to choice. Actions are what define a hero, not whether you're super or not. Heroes are called heroes because of the great achievements they earn based on the right decisions they have made in their lifetime.

Putting others before yourself is a big hero staple; you can't be a hero if you're only thinking about yourself because people won't perceive you as a hero-- they would just think you're selfish. Basically, you cannot dub yourself a hero without the strangest of looks from those around you.

I personally think powers are cool too and if I was going to be a superhero I'd like some cool abilities.

For my hero it would come down to two types. My first is a magical hero. I play a lot of games where the main character uses magic as his or her main weapon, so I play a lot of fantasy role playing games. Magic is cool and there's so much to it, especially when you get into elements and light and dark magic. It's really fascinating, so magic is one of the first options I'd like if I was turning myself into a hero.

Another type would be heroes who use mind abilities. There's something intriguing to me about a strong mind and if you're going to use mind abilities you need to have a strong will and a strong mind. Some of my favorite abilities are reading minds and using telekinesis. Reading minds is a great way to plan moves because you'll have an idea of what your enemy is planning and, if you're strong enough, you might be able to control them for a moment or two.

As for telekinesis, I love the idea of moving things with your mind; that's probably why the force is so interesting to me because of how strong-minded Jedis must be. The scene where Luke must use the force to get his sunken plane out of the murky swap water was awesome to me, especially since he failed and then Yoda turned around and did it! I'd love to be able to move things with my mind; it'd be a great defense for if I got trapped or something.

Super Suit

Every great comic book hero needs a super suit; it becomes a symbol for the citizens as well as the hero; it's a symbol of justice and responsibility.

My hero would definitely need a cool super suit and I think if I was going to design a suit for her it'd be similar to Ninja's outfit. It'd have some slight alterations but mostly just a Ninja outfit so she could blend into the shadows and so she could move about freely. I wouldn't want her to wear anything revealing like some female comic book heroes, just because I wouldn't want that to be her personality.

I would pick a name but I'm not sure I could think of a good one for her, I do think a telepathic ninja would be a really cool mix, especially with the right story. What would you all want your own comic hero to be like?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
