4 Things You Learn When You Stop Worrying What Other People Think
Bree James

Nowadays, life is hard. No matter what you do, it always feels like you are making someone unhappy. Trust me, I’ve been there. Then, something clicked and I realized the person that was always unhappy was me. I looked in the mirror and I didn’t recognize myself. Over the years, I had slowly begun to mold myself into the person I thought people wanted me to be, and I lost who I truly was. Everything was replaced by this façade that I had been putting on.

From that point on, everything I do now is for me. I don’t worry about what people think of me, and I’m happier each day because of it. There have been many things that I have noticed since I decided to put myself first, and I know I can’t be the only one.

1. Independence

It’s very, very freeing to be able to put yourself first. Everyone deserves to feel this way. You should live your life by not having anyone hold you back, and tell you not to do something. It isn’t their life, it’s yours so take control of it.

2. Happiness

You’re going to smile a whole lot more, and the thing is, is that it’s going to be a real smile. Not a fake one you used to plaster on so people thought you were having a good time. Happiness is important. It makes you feel a certain way that I don’t even know how to describe. It’s almost like your soul is smiling from within, and it’s a good feeling.

3. Self-Love

No longer will you have to live up to society’s standards. You will look in the mirror and feel beautiful no matter what. You will love the skin you’re in because you’re no longer molding yourself into someone else’s standards for you. You aren’t fussing over what people think, and you let your true inner beauty shine through.

4. Your True Self

Probably the most important thing. You’re aren’t hiding your personality, your quirks, your anything. It’s all out there and you see that people will either love it or leave it. For the ones who leave it, well they don’t deserve you anyway, but you already know that.

It’s a long journey to get to the where I am. Honestly, it took me almost a year to get there, and I always have more room to grow. The most important thing to know is that being yourself is alright. Put yourself out there and don’t let others affect you. You are beautiful, kind, smart, funny, and so much more. Give yourself 100% at all times, and your life will always be on a high note. Life is too short to hide who you truly are, and no one is important enough to make you think otherwise.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
