When something with the magnitude of Hurricane Harvey affects any part of our country, they send their thoughts, prayers and wish there was something they could do. Everyone is always quick to want to help, but often don’t know how they can help from so far away. But really, there are a variety of ways you can help the victims of Hurricane Harvey — some of which don’t involve cash donations.

Red Cross.

The Red Cross set up a text line under the number 90999 where you can text “HARVEY” to send a $10 donation. You can also visit their website, or call 1-855-999-GIVE to donate.

Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund.

Here you can send tax deductible donations to go to those who were affected by this hurricane. This donation method was established by the Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner.

Food Banks.

There are numerous food banks you could donate to that are currently serving those affected by Harvey. Two of these food banks are the Southeast Texas Food Bank and the Houston Food Bank. They would also accept cash donations and have been requesting those donations so they can easily purchase what they need most at different times.

Texas Diaper Bank.

The Texas Diaper Bank, located in San Antonio, is asking for donations of diapers and wipes. These can either be dropped off or mailed directly to them at 5415 Bandera Road, Suite 504, San Antonio, Tx., 78238.

The Salvation Army.

Salvation Army is accepting donations online, over the phone by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY or by texting “STORM” to 51555.

South Texas Blood and Tissue Center.

The center is searching for donors to give 2,000 + units of blood that they are in need of. They are in serious need of both O Positive and Negative, but of course will take any donations given.

Animal Defense League of Texas.

This organization is taking in animals that have been displaced by the hurricane. They are currently looking for foster families, supplies and donations to help with finances.

Humane Society of the United States.

Their animal rescue team responds to natural disasters and currently are responding from Corpus Christi Texas to San Antonio with volunteers, equipment and rescue vehicles to help displaced animals. Any donation amount is welcomed and appreciated.

Charity Navigator.

You can also find many more organizations who are helping those affected by Hurricane Harvey, by visiting this website. Here you’ll be taken to a page that shows all of the organizations who are supporting the victims through various forms of donations.

Whatever donation you can give to any organization on or off this list will be a huge help in the aid and recovery from Hurricane Harvey. Please look to see if there’s anything you would be able to donate and keep the people of Texas in your thoughts and prayers as they continue the fight that has come from this disaster.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
