Yes, that is a Star Wars reference. Sort of. Except in this scenario, Obi-Won is former FBI director Robert S.Mueller III. The man who is heading up the investigation into whether Trump colluded with the Russians in order to win the election, and if he obstructed justice in the firing of James Comey. Former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort will likely be indicted because of all the evidence that is mounting against him. Now a list of items has been requested by Mueller's team from the White House. The list asks for a number of specific documents pertaining to many different things. Let's go through a couple of them, shall we?
One of the items on the list is any documents pertaining to the firing of former FBI Director James Comey. This includes meetings Trump had with Comey, and any records of Trump discussing the firing of Comey. Mueller is looking to see whether or not Trump tried to obstruct justice. Comey was head of the FBI, who was - at the time - investigating former disgraced National Security Advisor Michael Flynn because of his contacts with Russia. According to Mr. Comey, Trump reportedly asked for the FBI to "just drop" the case against Flynn. When Comey was fired, it was then speculated that Trump fired him because he wouldn't drop the case against Flynn when Trump told him to. In an interview with Lester Holt, Trump even went so far as to say that he did in fact fire Comey because of the Russia investigation. During his televised hearing in front of the Senate, Comey stated that he felt uneasy around Trump. So uneasy that he wrote down every detail about the meetings as soon as they were over.
Another item on the list is any documents pertaining to the day after Comey was fired. This was the day when Trump invited the Russian Prime Minister, the Russian Ambassador, and the Russian press, to the Oval Office, while not allowing the American press to be invited. During this meeting, Trump not only shared highly classified material with the Russians, but he also assured them that he had taken care of the Comey situation. Trump said that firing Mr. Comey relieved “great pressure” on him.
One more thing on the list is any documents or records pertaining to the firing of former Acting Attorney General Sally Yates. Yates was fired in early February when she warned the Trump team about Flynn being under investigation, and that he could be a conflict of interest. This could likely be another obstruction of justice charge; Yates was essentially fired for sounding the alarm.
So, it seems the Mueller team is getting closer to their final verdict. If you can't help but wonder what Trump's base thinks of this investigation, polls show that nearly73% of Republicans still believe that Trump did nothing wrong. Their president is under investigation for obstructing justice, and perhaps even treason. Remember when they couldn't vote for Hillary because she was under investigation, even though technically she wasn't? BUT HER EMAILS!! Resist.
