In recent events that unfolded, a fire broke out and tore through storage and office trailers on Joint Base Cape Cod. Everything was lost in this fire including donated items needed for the annual Christmas party and toy drive for military personnel.
Lost in the fire was "About 5,000 stocking stuffers", 1,200 “regular gifts,” and more “premium gifts” in the trailers. In all, it was about 75 percent of what the foundation needed for the event."(source) Along with these gifts were backpacks filled with back-to-school supplies.
As nothing could be saved in the fire, president of the Cape Cod Military Support Foundation Don Cox explains they have to start "from scratch" and scramle to get gifts together for the event held in less that 40 days on December 11th. (source)
As a child in a military family and being someone who works on Joint Base Cape Cod, this hits home. Hearing about this event, it saddens me knowing that families who go to this annual event to pick out presents for their parents or receive gifts for themselves might not be able to do so this year due to a fire. Day in and day out, these families put their lives on the line to protect us and this great country we live in. A fire should not ruin the holiday spirit of families who serve our country.
