Not many people can say that they have attended both of the schools competing in the NCAA National Men's Basketball Championship. But I can. I half-jokingly put Villanova versus UNC as the end of my bracket, but when I woke up Sunday morning, I had gone from being sixth to first place.
Of course, I was pumped. But I was scared too. Not only was my school going to be playing for a national championship title, but they were also going to be playing the school I had transferred from. "We're gonna make you regret that transfer, Britt," and other messages circulated all day Sunday and Monday while anticipation built up. I knew if UNC lost to Villanova I would literally never hear the end of it from people. Never. I was excited, but I was also terrified.
Having known basketball players at Villanova as a freshman, it's weird watching games on TV. It's even weirder watching them play against UNC. I want the best for them, but of course, I also want bragging rights. Oh yeah, and a national championship title.
Watching Villanova throughout the tournament though had me scared. The fact that they beat Oklahoma by almost 50 points and Chris Jenkins can make three's from nearly half court is worrying. I'm not saying I don't have faith in my team, but with this much at stake, I was nervous, to say the least. And if Villanova wins, I won't deny that they deserve it.
Whatever the outcome, though, I'd still have a reason to celebrate. Once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat. But a Tarheel dead.
