Poetry On Odyssey: When Your Heart Breaks, Heals And Thrives

When your heart is broken...

Your brain won't let you sleep.

Your body won't let you eat.

Your heart won't let you get out of bed.

When your heart is broken...

You feel like everyday is a rainy day.

Your eyes are flooded most of the day.

You feel as if everyone can tell that your heart is in a million pieces.

You start to feel like the days are longer than ever.

You tend to not recognize your reflection.

When your heart is broken...

The only time you smile is when you have to.

The days get harder to face.

The people you love don't seem to matter as much as much as the one that left.

The way you view life seems different than ever before.

The way you look in the mirror is different.

When your heart heals...

You are able to sleep.

You are able to eat.

You can let yourself laugh again, really laugh.

You can cry again, but not because you're sad but because you laugh hard and long.

When your heart heals...

You let the sun shine on your face.

You smile as big as possible at even the smallest of things.

You allow the people you truly love back into your life and apologize for your absence.

When your heart heals...

The days feel long, but that's okay because you don't want them to end.

The reflection in the mirror makes sense again.

The way you view life is better than ever.

When you thrive...

Once your heart has been broken it feels as if nothing will ever be right again.

Your world seems to shift in the worst of ways.

The truth is life goes on.

And life is so sweet and so magical and is meant to be lived.

You will get through any heartbreak, even the most difficult of ones.

You will break, heal, and thrive.

I promise,

Every time.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
