I Have A Pit Bull And He's Not A Monster

Alright let's face it, we've all heard a story about someone getting mauled to death by a pit bull. Yes, pit bulls were originally bred to be fighting dogs. They were bred for entertainment. They were literally bred to fight to the death. And if they couldn't go on? They were shot or electrocuted2 or something way worse that ultimately ended in death anyway. But let's just take a step back and look at some statistics, shall we?

Way back in the day, pit bulls were actually used as "nanny dogs" because they are so good with children. Pit bulls also have the second best temperament behind Labrador Retrievers. Not to mention, they're just so darn cute.

So why do people give pit bulls such a hard time? Because the media portrays them in such a vicious way. All you ever hear is that a child was just mauled to death. Do they tell the whole story? Probably not. What was the child doing? Why did the dog get aggressive? What was going on at the time? Was the dog angry or just too excited?

Honestly, no one really knows. But I would just like to point out that any breed of dog can become aggressive when provoked. A chihuahua could maul someone to death if they got angry enough.

So let's meet my baby:

This is Duke. He's 4 years old, a pure bred pit bull, and he's not a monster. In fact, he's scared of thunder and he likes to cuddle. He sleeps upside down and he snores crazy loud. He comes into our rooms every night to check on us. He gives me kisses when I walk into the house every day. And he likes peanut butter. He's finally mastered the spoon, and it's so cute. He's never hurt a fly, and though he could do some major damage to anyone or anything if he wanted to, he won't. Any idea why? No? None? Well here's a hint: WE TRAINED HIM RIGHT. He responds very well to our commands, and is very tolerant and obedient.

How can you look into those eyes and accuse him of being a monster without knowing him? It's the same way that you shouldn't "judge a book by its cover."

Am I right Do some research people, that's all I ask of you. Before you go posting about how monstrous pit bulls are because you saw this one article from this one website that isn't even accredited.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
