If you're an Aggie, it is no surprise that Aggie football disappoints more often than not. We, as Aggies, stick by our team no matter what, but sometimes things can get a little heated.
Aggies lost the first game of the 2017 season against UCLA in a very disappointing game. They went from a 34 point lead to losing 45-44. On Thursday, September 7, Kevin Sumlin’s wife posted a picture on Twitter of a disgusting letter a fan sent to Sumlin about the game.
The letter read something not worth repeating, but it was a racist remark that no one deserves to be told. This person should not be an Aggie if they think that sending something like this is the right thing to do.
Twitter went crazy defending Sumlin, but, like always there were those who were skeptical and read into it a lot saying that the letter was not postmarked, therefore it was a fake letter for attention.
Yes, maybe Sumlin has not lead the Aggies to victory as much as he should have, but that does not give someone the right to treat him with such disrespect. It makes me wonder if he were white, would someone still send such a threatening letter?
People with these kinds of behavior have no remorse to how it would make someone feel. Like Charlene, Kevin’s wife mentioned in her tweet, did it occur to the sender that a child may open it? Kevin has four children who could have seen that and felt threaten and scared that someone would be going after their father because of a lost football game.
It is scary to think that in 2017 someone can still be thinking this way. This is not the way to resolve anything, and I hope that this just gives Sumlin the motivation to keep coaching to the best of his ability.
Nevertheless, the sender should be regretful of what he did because all us good Ags have Sumlin’s back. As much as we cannot stand the emotional roller coaster Aggie football puts us through, I think that we will stand by our team in the toughest times. We still love Aggie football and everything it stands for.
In the midst of it all, The Battalion came out with an
Let's stand behind Sumlin and against hate because hate is not an Aggie value.
