Why it's so Hard to Love Yourself These Days
Parker Wehking

Self-love is one of the hardest achievements these days, especially for the younger generations. With constant access to the world and everyone around you, it’s so much easier to see all the models and the high-end things that celebrities have that put a lot of pressure on people. Just in high school, I felt pressured to have the same “Lily Pulitzer” things that the other girls in my class had, even if they were super expensive. I wanted to have the same nice purses, shoes, and clothes as girls around me. Maybe I would have been cooler if I had them (not true). The hardest part for most girls and boys, is seeing all the celebrities and models online or on television. America especially has one of the highest eating disorder rates among females and suicide rates among males. Just last week as the Victoria Secret fashion show ended, I felt an immediate sadness wishing I could be as skinny and beautiful and desired as those girls on stage. These girls work very hard to get where they are which anyone can successfully do, but not all companies are like this. Many use photo-shop for advertisements and set unrealistic standards.

More and more girls and boys are beginning to develop self-love issues and health disorders because of the constant attention social media gets and how much value we base on our bodies and our appearance. It’s very hard for many girls to honestly say they love themselves and are happy with the way they look. Many boys feel the same way but don’t feel like they can talk about it like girls do. It’s important that people don’t forget that we are not just a body. We are our personalities, our brains, and our knowledge. We have humor, we are all unique, and we all have something special about us that make us who we are. If we all looked liked those models the world would be a very boring place! It’s important for men and women and especially younger generations to focus on the positives aspects of their personalities and not just their bodies, and that is where they will find self-love. They will love themselves for their accomplishments, their friends, and their kindness. It will never be easy to love yourself all the time and it may require a lot of time spent thinking and encouragement from friends and family, but in the end we must all learn to love ourselves for who we truly are and not listen to who the world wants us to be.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
