We have all been there. Sitting in a boring class, wishing we took that easy art class rather than introduction to statistics. Or at work, zoning out on that long project laying on our desk that we dread starting. Here are some helpful tips to get you motivated and change your attitude at work. Stop being lazy or hating your job, and start being happy!
Move.
Studies have shown that exercise improves mood, memory and ability to focus. Get up and go to the restroom, get a drink of water, or go for a quick walk. Sitting for long periods of time can be stressful and cause anxiety. So by moving around you can get the blood flowing and the creative genes thinking!
Get more sleep.
Working off of three or four hours of sleep is almost like you're showing up to work drunk. You're exhausted and can only think about the next time you can lay your head on a pillow. At night before bed, avoid looking at phone screens, computer screens, or tablets. Having that bright light in your face makes it more difficult to fall asleep. With more sleep, you can increase your motivation and find yourself happier throughout the day.
Talk to other people.
Do not sit around your office all day by yourself. If you are at an internship, have a daily internship meeting to get to know the other interns. If you have a packed schedule of classes, find time to talk to friends between classes to get your mind off all the work you have. Having a conversation can make you fill up on energy and give you a happiness boost.
Ignore fights.
It sounds easier than it actually is. Sometimes, work problems arise and can cause frustration in the office. Nothing damages your day like a work problem turned hostile. Learn to solve the problem quickly in a way that is beneficial to both sides. Angry co-workers can lead to an angry day. And an angry day can lead to major frustration and discomfort on the job.
Set a goal.
Show up to work 10 minutes early. Eat healthy at lunch. Finish the report by 4 p.m. Whatever it is, set a goal to stay on track throughout the day. Having a goal and accomplishing it can increase your energy and make you more happy!
