As terrible as it is for you, a major part of college is binge drinking on the weekends. Students spend their weekdays filled with late nights at the library with their noses in books so that whenever the weekend rolls around and there is a chance to go out, people go hard. For game days, nights out and random nights in between, college students are drinking.

A normal weekend consists of people going out on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, and for the strong few, Tuesdays and Sundays. And while going out is so much fun, the hangovers the next morning are definitely not fun. College students are always working against themselves and they are the reasons for their terrible hangovers the next morning.

1. They drink the cheap stuff

College students are on a budget, and as a result, they buy the cheapest alcohol they can get their hands on. This just leaves you with a nasty hangover.

2. They drink on school nights

This just means that you have to wake up the next day feeling like ass and pretend that you are a normal functioning human. Have you ever tried going to the library hungover? Yeah, it is never a good idea. No one can get any homework done when they keep having to run to the bathroom.

3. They drink sugary stuff

Sugary drinks cause the worst hangovers. Not only is your body having a hangover from the alcohol but the literal sugar as well. All college students claim to love wine but they end up drinking what is practically juice and wake up the next morning regretting their decisions.

4. They get too drunk

College students have a terrible habit of binge drinking. The weekdays are filled with school work and classes, so anytime they get to go out, they always drink as much as they can. College students go out to get “blacked out” and not remember the night just to have fun. What is really fun is watching your drinks and remembering a great night with friends. Plus, you will definitely feel better the next day!

5. They don’t know how to properly drink

College students think that it is a good idea to not eat a real dinner, or sleep, etc. before going out. Drinking on an empty stomach with no sleep and a definite illness is a terrible idea. Students need to take care of their bodies and take the proper precautions when drinking because college already has a big enough toll on them.

6. They don’t know how to deal with a hangover

College students fully well know that alcohol dehydrates the body yet they wake up the next morning feeling like they have just been hit by a truck. While drinking, people should make sure to sneak water into the mix and rotate between the two. Drinking water will help keep the body hydrated and feeling slightly better the next morning.

7. They stay up all night

For some reason, college students think that it is a great idea to drink and go out and stay up all night. Part of the main reason you feel so bad the next day is that you went to bed at 4:00 a.m. and woke up at 10:00 a.m. with stuff to do. Sleep deprivation has a huge toll on the body, and we already don’t get enough sleep during the week.

8. They drunk-eat

All the restaurants that stay open late in Madison do a great business. After a night out, you can always find college students stumbling to find the nearest open pizza place. All the high calories, greasy, sugars, oily food we put into our bodies late at night just make us feel sluggish and gross the next morning.

Just Remember: drinking is never a sprint, it is a marathon. Practice safe drinking!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
