This week I accomplished a great feat. No, I did not take a Calc exam. No, I did not take a physics exam. No, I did not take both — though I would like to commend anyone who did, or anyone who took any exams this week.
I did something much greater, at least in terms of my own subjective emotional opinion (which I am predisposed to believing). I hammocked seven days in a row. A massive feat.
But I can hear the voice of doubt (or maybe reason) saying “Not a massive feat.” And yes, to most, this would seem a bum-ish accomplishment. Yet to me, it is everything. Okay, well maybe not everything, but it does mean a lot. It means I made the conscious decision to do something for myself. It means I took at least an hour a day to (semi)immerse myself in nature. It means I slowed down the tumultuous passage of time on a college campus. It means I watched the sunset almost every night. It means I endured harsh fall winds in order to make it a full week of hammocking. It means I subsequently became an avid Extreme Hammocker.
And because of all of those reasons that, to some, seem irrelevant, I accomplished a lot. So if you were one of the admirable students buried in pre-turkey-day-tests, let me pass on to you one piece of advice: hang in there.
