2:20 p.m.
You could hear the storm throughout the night but it was nothing serious. I woke up at 8:00 this morning, thinking that it was in the middle of the night because of how dark shutters make your house. It was tempting to cuddle up and sleep longer but I knew there was a chance of losing hot water so I got into the shower.
I am the queen of taking long showers, sadly I had to cut this one short. As soon as I got out of the tub, the power went out but came back on within seconds. I might have gotten my hopes up too high because within ten minutes the power went out and is still fully out. My house is in complete darkness, the only visible light is small tea lights that are running off of batteries.
Our generator kicked the dust yesterday, but we are lucky enough to have thoughtful neighbors. One of them brought my mom and I a small generator so we can turn our refrigerator on, have a light on, and put an air conditioning unit in one of the bedrooms. All you can do is sit on the couch and watch the trees move in all different directions, and the small waves going back and forth in the pool.
4:40 p.m.
The wind has become stronger; Ivy and Boo went outside to go to the bathroom and it seemed like they could have been swept up by the wind. The rain was coming in sections but now the rain is coming full force. Cellphone service is slowly depleting, at least my mom and I are together.
On the bright side, we do have one light on and our refrigerator is up and running. I know that that doesn't seem like too much, but if you were experiencing this right now, you would understand.
9:40 p.m.
After staying inside all day, I think I am going to finally go to sleep. Mom and I learned that a tiny generator cannot support a refrigerator, and an air conditioning unit for the window at the same time.
So, we had to pick the refrigerator over the air conditioning sadly. I have a small battery-operated fan pointed directly in my face, and I am going to say a prayer that the battery lasts throughout the night. Fingers crossed that when everybody wakes up, the storm is gone.
Monday, September 11th
11:00 a.m.
Everybody woke up this morning really not knowing what to expect, just saying a prayer that their house was still fully standing along with everything else of theirs. The house was still pitch black due to the shutters so you had to go outside to see what had happened.
Our house was still standing and people were walking their dogs around the neighborhood. I took a drive around my town, people were already cleaning up their yards and helping others with taking their shutters down.
Be back soon..
My neighborhood and most of my town still do not have power, so electronics are slowly dying. I am sitting outside writing this right now so I can enjoy the fresh air. The first thing you notice when walking outside is the bright blue sky and the small clouds scattered. The sky was saying that the storm had passed and everything was going to be okay.
