It's the best time of year again! A time when corporations are ready to cash in on those big seasonal sales, and groups of people wait for the moment they'll no longer be judged for indulging in their fall favorite.
No, not pumpkin spice season -- Halloween!
I -- along with many others around the world -- am a year-round Halloween lover. I am a lover of things creepy and scary, and thrive on the aesthetic of Halloween. While I may not portray it in my appearance, I am spooky at heart.
With that being said, I am a Halloween prepper.
Some people prepare for apocolypses or birthdays, but I prepare for October 31st. In the way doomsday preppers stockpile resources and make plans for their big day, I do the same with costume pieces and Halloween parties.
I am always prepared.
At least a year in advance, I've created a costume idea in my head, and from there I start finding and gathering the things I need to make it into a reality. While the intended costume may often change within a couple months of the big day, I still spend hours scowering Amazon and eBay looking for the perfect pieces to whatever it is I plan on doing.
Go ahead and judge me for ordering a pair of boots three months in advance, but while you're digging through the mess of Walmart's costume section trying to find the last antler headband two days before a costume party, I'll be at home trying on my completed -- and unique -- costume for the 600th time.
Who wants to show up dressed as something half the crowd is going as anyway? I'm busy pulling together pieces to make something in which I'm using my crafting skills and items from my own closet.
I'm being easy on my wallet, creative and prepared.
I've been asked several times why I prepare for Halloween so early, and the answer is simple: I have zero patience.
I'm a Halloween-lover and absolutely nothing will stop me from enjoying that holiday, be it Christmas, Easter or a Tuesday in June. My never-ending love for skulls, Edgar Allen Poe and mini-candies with jack-o-lanterns on the wrappers will not cease because it's "not Halloween yet."
There is no such thing as "not Halloween" to me. Why? Because I am an impatient, spooky kid and I love my holiday.
Now excuse me while I try on my costume for the 601st time.
