Halloween Is Overrated

I'm sorry, but it totally is

All right, I’m just going to say it.

Halloween is overrated, and before some of you get heated about this proclamation just hear me out. I love the fall season and every single thing about it just as much as the next person. I know that from the title of this article it may not seem like it, but I do actually like Halloween too.

I love the decorations, the movies, and the special edition fun-sized candy bars (especially the white chocolate pumpkin Reese’s omg) that only come out for this holiday. My whole point is that there is absolutely no way that someone can say that it’s as fun for a 20-year-old as it is for a 10-year-old.

When I was little I would have my costume planned out (usually some variation of Sleeping Beauty) and yeah, I know, you can still dress up and go out to various parties during “Halloweek” but that doesn’t give me half the excitement that going out and trick-or-treating and comparing/trading candy with my best friends did when I was younger. Maybe I just feel like this because I don’t really party and I don’t really have any desire to but hey, to each his own.

This year, like most years since I stopped trick-or-treating, I will be watching movies with my gal pals and eating the candy that was on sale at the CVS (by the day of Halloween they’re usually selling it buy-three-get-three, you’re welcome). I know that sounds lame, but that’s exciting enough for me.

Maybe my lack of enthusiasm comes from the fact that school gets so stressful that by the time Halloween rolls around I’m just trying to recover from midterms and all I really want to do is take a nap. Each year it just comes and goes with me caring less and less about it.

I guess that’ll probably change when I have kids (or a dog I guess) since I will be able to dress them up and live vicariously through their excitement about the holiday. I will say though, the best thing about Halloween to me, is that it means that we’re only a few weeks away from Thanksgiving, which unlike Halloween, only gets better every single year. BRING ON THE GREEN BEAN CASSEROLE!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
