Halloween in September: Is it a Crime?

Life is full of a lot of questions, and sometimes you have to use a little extra brain power to ponder them all. I'm talking some heavy philosophical stuff. When is it acceptable to drink something laced with pumpkin spice and blast Spooky Scary Skeletons on repeat?

Questions like this are bound to split groups. People, oddly, have strong opinions about this a lot. That's why I asked similar holiday-themed questions last November about Christmas. Are the bigger holidays taking over, and more importantly, are we going to let them?

There'd always been jokes about how the minute the calendar flips from August to September, it's time to celebrate Halloween. Numerous tweets with a jack-o-lantern-headed Dwight Shrute plague Twitter. Other memes usually follow suit. This year, though, it especially seems like people were eager to jump on the Halloween bandwagon.

And honestly, just let them. If it makes them happy, leave them alone. That's a rule of thumb for most things in general in our society. Don't mock what people are passionate about... to a degree. If someone is passionate about murdering people, then maybe intervene. Talk about a real spooky season.

I haven't seen a lot of haters yet, but I'm sure they're still out there, and really, what's the point? Does it make you feel big to put down some random person online for sharing tweets full of pumpkin and bat emojis.

There's so much happening in the world right now, and quite frankly, so many people are feeling exhausted, exasperated, or just plain empty. If watching The Nightmare Before Christmas and listening to The Ghostbusters' theme song makes them feel better, then I highly support them doing just that. There were people putting up Christmas trees mid-quarantine just to feel something, if they can do that, then celebrating a fun holiday for an extended period is practically the same thing.

The last big holiday was Independence Day and that was over 2 months ago (I know, I'm surprised we're already in September too. Time sure does fly when you're in the middle of a pandemic). Sometimes people best cope by looking forward to brighter, happier times. October 31st might seem like a long ways away, but there's no other big holiday until then. This isn't quite like the Christmas debate- no one's skipping over anything.

People often associate the cooler weather that fall brings with Halloween, so that could also explain the strong jump into spooky season. Or even more plausible, people just really like falling leaves, pumpkins, and everything else that this time of year has to offer. It's a whole aesthetic.

When all my other reasons fail, here's just some solid knowledge: Halloween songs are catchy and often not as overplayed as Christmas tunes, pumpkin-flavored stuff is actually pretty good, and Halloween movies are an escape from reality. I'm all for letting people celebrate for two months as long as all their costumes are appropriate (stop wearing culturally offensive costumes- it's never a good look). Besides, chances are people won't be getting their ideal Halloween anyway... we're sort of still in a pandemic.

I know, I'm all aboard for fall. My local pumpkin patch, Vala's, opens in a few weeks, and I'm ~pumped~ (Yep, that was a really bad pun).I officially dub it spooky season, and anyone who objects might be the real monster here.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
