If you're like me, Halloween is not your favorite holiday. You're not a thrill seeker, and the thought of voluntarily walking through a haunted house is enough to make you nauseous. But transitioning to college has taught me a lot about being able to embrace the fear and ride the wave of emotions. Here's why this year, you should embrace Halloween and all the excitement that comes with it.
1. Costumes
Halloween, like college, is a chance to experiment and discover who you are. If you want to be a cat on Halloween, go for it! If you want to be a butterfly or the tooth fairy, now's your chance! Halloween is the one day of the year where I'd say, DON'T be yourself. You can be whoever you want to be and no one can tell you otherwise. (Except if you want to be a clown. There are plenty of people that will tell you otherwise.)
2. Halloween Candy
In college, family and friends will send you these magical things called care packages, filled with candy, snacks, and cookies all because they love you. What other time can you expect free candy? On Halloween! If you're young enough, you'll go trick-or-treating. But if you're like me, you'll go to a Halloween party, hide all the free candy in your purse, and walk away. WHO DOESN'T LIKE FREE FOOD?
3. Scary Movies
Scary movies embody all of the feelings you feel in college. Just when the movie starts to become happy again and the sun comes out, a ghost decides to jump out of nowhere and scare you. Yes, you were expecting it, but that doesn't stop you from jumping halfway our of your seat when it happens. In college, I like to call that ghost MIDTERMS. For most of us, midterms were a couple of weeks ago, and I know for me, they were NOT a friendly ghost. Just when I was starting to feel comfortable - with my friends and my classes - midterms rounded the corner and threw me for a loop. We'll be fine for a little while now - until the cliffhanger ending - FINALS!! Dun, dun, DUN!!
4. PURE AND ABSOLUTE MAYHEM!
College, like Halloween, is mayhem. It's crazy. There are so many people you don't recognize, people are just wandering in different directions, trying different things, and everyone is pretending like they know what they're doing and where they're going. But like all things, Halloween and college don't last forever. Love the crazy. Love the mayhem. Adventure into the unknown!
