For most people, this is a weekend where you go out and party halloween through Saturday night. You wear different costumes each night and go to different parties each night. It's an anticipated weekend here at ECU, and people plan their costumes for weeks. I'm sure you've heard of the East Carolina Riverwalk Halloween 2014, where students took over ECU busses and caused a lot of chaos. This is not a normal halloween at ECU. Normally, people think that's how it is here. Newsflash! - that's not how it normally goes.
We strive to have fun and also be safe. We don't want to cause national headlines for our university and most of us are worried about being safe while also having fun. There are many different events happening at ECU during this weekend. You can go to frat parties most of the time guys cannot get in, so only if you're a girl group. You can go to house parties - there will be a lot. The only problem is these are likely to be busted by the cops, because they are on high alert this weekend. You could also go downtown - All the clubs will still be open. Also, there is an on-campus event where you can dress up and get free food and candy, and hang out with friends. I have been to this event and thought it was fun. It's a safer option if you aren't the party type where you still get to dress up with your friends and have a good time. You do have more options than just sitting in your apartment or going to a party. You'll most likely still have class the day after Halloween. This year downtown there will also be a "Trunk or Treat" event where there will be food trucks and games for students. Remember this when you decide what you will be doing on Halloween night. You probably shouldn't stay out all night and not get enough sleep.
As far as the University and what they think of this infamous weekend, they sent all students an email saying to remember to be safe and remember that we make a name for the university and don't want to give our home away from home a bad name to future prospective parents, faculty, and students. They also told us there would be an increase in police presence on campus but also in the bigger neighborhoods to be sure we are all being safe. We don't want a Riverwalk Halloween 2014 2.0.
